How Pandits Calculate Griha Pravesh Dates (Hindu Panchang)

When people search for Griha Pravesh dates in the Hindu Panchang, they are really asking for days that pass Panchang Shuddhi, a five-part check:

1. Tithi: the lunar day must be a favourable one (see the Tithi section below).

2. Nakshatra: the Moon must be in a fixed or soft star.

3. Vaar (weekday): Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday are preferred.

• September 2026: No muhurat. Chaturmas continued, and Pitru Paksha (the fortnight for ancestors, about 26 September to 10 October 2026) is avoided for new beginnings.

• October 2026: No muhurat. Chaturmas continues, Pitru Paksha runs until 10 October, and Venus is combust (Shukra Asta) for the second half of the month. Navratri (11–20 October) and Dussehra (20 October) are festival days, but most pandits still advise waiting for November for a full Griha Pravesh.

1 January falls inside Kamurta. The rest of January after Uttarayan is the month of Paush, which is also avoided for Griha Pravesh, so most Gujarati families choose a February date.

February is one of the most reliable months of the year. Revati and Uttara Bhadrapada, both highly favoured, appear several times.

11 February 2027 is also Vasant Panchami (Saraswati Puja), an abujh (self-auspicious) day, which makes it one of the strongest dates of the year.

Best Nakshatra for Griha Pravesh in 2026 and 2027

The best Nakshatras for Griha Pravesh are Rohini, Mrigashira, Chitra, Anuradha, Revati and the three Uttaras (Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha and Uttara Bhadrapada). Classical texts call these dhruva (fixed) or mridu (soft) stars, which stands for stability, the main thing you want in a new home. Hasta and Pushya are also accepted by many pandits.

Best Time to Boil Milk in a New House

Boiling milk until it overflows is the most-loved part of the ceremony, because it stands for abundance. A few simple rules:

• Boil the milk inside the muhurat window, ideally soon after the first entry and the kalash puja.

• Use the stove in the south-east (Agni) corner of the kitchen if your layout allows, facing east while you cook.

• Let it overflow on the east side of the vessel, then make kheer or tea from it and offer it to the deity first.
