  • Timings: 6:20 AM to 11:00 PM on the Blue and Red Lines (last train from APMC 11:10 PM). Gandhinagar trains run until about 9:20 PM.

The Ahmedabad (Amdavad) Metro links Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and GIFT City across four lines and about 68 km: 40.03 km in Phase 1 and 28.25 km in Phase 2, per GMRC. Since 18 May 2026, Ahmedabad trains have run an hour later, until 11 PM. Many older guides still say 10 PM. Ahmedabad Metro Violet Line: GNLU to GIFT City

The Violet Line (Phase 2, Corridor 2) is a 5.8 km spur with three stations, GNLU → PDEU (formerly PDPU) → GIFT City, about 6 minutes. Trains run only in the morning (7:36–10:18 AM) and evening (4:06–7:13 PM). From 10:18 AM to 4:06 PM, GMRC runs a bus between GNLU and GIFT City instead. Several direct trains also run from APMC to GIFT City each day (see below).

Gandhinagar to Ahmedabad: the first train leaves Mahatma Mandir at 6:40 AM and the last at 9:00 PM. The 9:00 PM train runs through to APMC, arriving at 10:22 PM.

Direct trains to GIFT City from APMC leave at 6:45, 7:34, 8:03 and 9:11 AM, and at 3:16, 4:03, 5:16 and 6:06 PM. Each takes about 56–58 minutes. Direct trains from GIFT City to APMC leave at 7:48, 8:37, 9:01 and 10:18 AM, and at 4:17, 5:08, 6:21 and 7:13 PM.

Ticket: tokens and the GMRC smart card work only within Phase 1 (Thaltej Gam–Vastral Gam and APMC–Motera Stadium). For trips to Koteshwar Road, Gandhinagar or GIFT City, use a QR ticket (from the counter or the GMRC app) or an NCMC card.

Tickets, Online Booking, Smart Card & NCMC

  • QR ticket / online ticket booking: buy at the station counter, or online in the official GMRC app (Android and iOS). A paper QR ticket is valid for 30 minutes after issue and a mobile QR ticket for 180 minutes. Both are valid only from the station where they were issued. Screenshots and photos of a QR ticket are not valid.

  • Token (contactless smart token): pay by cash, UPI or card at the counter. Phase 1 only.

  • GMRC smart card (CSC): 10% off every completed journey. Phase 1 only.

  • NCMC (National Common Mobility Card) from any bank: 10% off and valid on the whole network, including Gandhinagar and GIFT City. Top up through your bank, then validate the top-up at any station's customer-care window.

  • Return journey and group tickets (for groups of more than 9 people) are also available.

  • Free travel: up to two children under 3 feet tall travel free with one adult.

  • Monthly, student or tourist pass: GMRC's fare rules don't list any. Regular commuters can use a smart card or NCMC for the 10% discount.

Together, Phases 2A and 2B add 9.36 km and 8 stations (7 elevated, 1 underground), per GMRC. That takes the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar network to about 77.6 km.

Airport Metro: What We Know

The airport line (Phase 2A) will branch off at Koteshwar Road and run 6.032 km to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. It will have 5 stations: Ashram Road, Koteshwar Prachin Mandir, Sabarmati River, Sardarnagar and Airport. The Union Cabinet approved it on 10 June 2026 at a cost of ₹2,169.04 crore. GMRC has not yet announced an opening date. Until it opens, use a cab, auto or bus to reach the airport.

Ridership & Network Growth

The Ahmedabad Metro carried 51.03 million passengers in FY 2025–26 (April 2025–March 2026). That is up about 27% from 40.07 million in FY 2024–25 and works out to roughly 1.4 lakh passengers a day on average. The network has grown from a 6.5 km first section in March 2019 to about 68 km and 53 stations today.

Rules Every Passenger Should Know

  • Luggage: up to 25 kg, maximum 80 × 50 × 30 cm.

  • Travelling without a valid ticket: ₹50 fine plus the system's maximum fare.

  • Time limit inside the paid area: with a QR ticket, you can stay up to 20 minutes if you exit at the same station, or up to 240 minutes if you exit at another station. After that, the fine is ₹10 per hour, up to ₹50.

  • Taking a token out of the station: ₹200 fine.

  • No reverse travel: to travel back, exit and buy a new ticket.
