How many international airport in Gujarat is open?
Three.
1. Ahmedabad airport (AMD)
Detail | Figure |
Flyers in FY 2025-26 | 1.38 crore (1.14 crore domestic, 24 lakh foreign) |
Plane movements | 1,09,200, past one lakh for the first time |
Runway | 3,505 metres, the longest in use in the state |
Terminals | T1 domestic, T2 foreign |
Run by | Adani Group firm, on a 50 year deal from February 2020 |
Rank in India | Seventh busiest in FY 2024-25 |
Direct flights go to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Singapore and Bangkok.
A new joint terminal is coming. It will cost over ₹3,100 crore. Work was set to start by March 2026. The yearly load then rises from about 1.2 crore to 2 crore flyers.
2. Airport in Surat, Gujarat (STV)
Detail | Figure |
International status | 15 December 2023 |
New terminal opened | 17 December 2023 |
Terminal size | 25,520 sq m, for 5.5 million flyers a year |
Runway | 2,905 metres |
Flyers in FY 2025-26 | 18,14,572, up 5.2 per cent |
Foreign routes | Dubai and Bangkok |
Distance from city | About 12 km, at Magdalla |
3. Airport in Rajkot, Gujarat: Hirasar (HSR)
Detail | Figure |
Opened | 27 July 2023, flights from 10 September 2023 |
Cost and land | ₹2,654 crore on 2,534 acres |
Runway | 3,040 metres, takes wide body planes |
Terminal | 23,000 sq m, four aerobridges, 1,800 flyers at a time |
Location | On NH 27, about 30 km from Rajkot city |
Flyers in FY 2025-26 | 12,46,996, up 14.6 per cent |
One honest point. Hirasar is called international for its size, runway and customs plan. But as of September 2026 it flies only to Indian cities. Those are Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Navi Mumbai. Foreign flights have not started.
Is the airport in Baroda, Gujarat international?
No. Vadodara Airport (BDQ) is a customs airport with an air force base. Its terminal can clear 200 foreign flyers an hour, but no foreign flights are booked there now.
Its flights go to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Goa Mopa and Navi Mumbai. It served 12,64,148 flyers in FY 2024-25. Its runway is 2,469 metres.
So the right answer to how many international airports in Gujarat is three, not four.
Domestic airport in Gujarat list
Airport | Code | Flights to | Flyers |
Bhuj | BHJ | Delhi, Mumbai | 2,80,580 in FY 2025-26, up 50.5% |
Jamnagar | JGA | Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Surat | 1,66,490 in FY 2025-26 |
Bhavnagar | BHU | Navi Mumbai, Surat | 74,503 in FY 2024-25 |
Kandla | IXY | Mumbai | 48,408 in FY 2024-25 |
Keshod | IXK | Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Diu, Porbandar | 4,798 in FY 2025-26 |
Porbandar | PBD | Mumbai | Service back from March 2025 |
Mundra | No IATA code | Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Surat, Goa Mopa, Ghaziabad | New terminal from June 2026 |
Four things worth knowing.
Bhuj airport is the way in to Kutch. It sits 4 km from the city. Its flyer count rose over 50 per cent. That was the sharpest jump in the state.
Jamnagar is the only one in the state with two runways.
Keshod airport in Gujarat serves Junagadh, Veraval and Somnath. A ₹363 crore upgrade is on. The runway goes to 2,500 metres. A new 6,500 sq m terminal is planned. Work is due to end by January 2027.
Mundra was a private airport for company jets from 2007. A new terminal opened on 23 June 2026. Star Air then began regular flights. So Mundra is the newest airport here with public flights.
Flights from Porbandar, Keshod, Kandla and Bhavnagar are few. They change often. So check live schedules before you book a hotel or cab.

Deesa Airport, North Gujarat
In February 2026 the centre gave first stage approval for Deesa. The plan is to open the Deesa Air Force Station in Banaskantha to civil flights. About 100 acres near the base will be used for a new terminal.
The runway there is already 3.3 km. That is one of the longest in the state. The site is about 18 km from Deesa town. It would be the first civil airport for North Gujarat. No terminal work has begun yet.
Ankleshwar and other upcoming airports in Gujarat
Ankleshwar in Bharuch district has a domestic airport under build. It will serve the Bharuch, Ankleshwar and Dahej belt.
Airports are also proposed at Dwarka, Ambaji, Kevadia, Palitana, Dholavira, Dhordo, Morbi, Botad, Dahej, Dahod, Rajpipla, Rajula, Siddhpur and Vadnagar. These are proposals only, with no opening dates.

Longest runway in use: Ahmedabad, 3,505 metres
Largest land area: Rajkot Hirasar, 2,534 acres
Largest terminal: Surat, 25,520 sq m
So, on traffic and runways, the largest is Ahmedabad. Rajkot Hirasar wins on land and Surat on terminal size.

Airport near Dwarka, Gujarat. The Devbhumi Dwarka district website lists Porbandar at 95 km. It lists Jamnagar's Govardhanpur Airport at 110 km. So the Dwarka nearest airport on the map is Porbandar.
But Jamnagar has far more flights. Most people fly to Jamnagar or Rajkot Hirasar and then drive. There are no flights into Dwarka itself. The nearest airport to Dwarkadhish Temple is the same as the one in Dwarka town.
Airport in Gujarat near Somnath. Keshod is closest, but its flights are few. Many pilgrims fly to Rajkot Hirasar or Ahmedabad and take a car or train.
Airport in Gujarat near Gandhinagar. Gandhinagar has no airport of its own. Ahmedabad airport is the one to use.
Closed airports in Gujarat
The old Rajkot airport (RAJ) inside the city has not closed. All airline flights moved to Hirasar on 10 September 2023. The old site still takes small planes and VIP travel. Its runway was only 1,843 metres. The city had also grown right up to it.
Gujarat also has old, unused airfields at Chad Bet, Dhrangadhra, Wankaner, Wadhwan, Radhanpur, Khambhaliya, Morbi, Parsoli and Limdi. None is used for flights today.
You can check airport wise data on the Airports Authority of India website.
What this means for property buyers
Airports lift land value along the access road first. Then near the ring road junction. Then in housing pockets 8 to 15 km away. Three areas to watch.
Ahmedabad airport side and SP Ring Road. The new terminal and the wider ring road keep demand strong in the north and east. Airport access is now a normal check for anyone buying a flat in Ahmedabad.
Dholera. The airport, the expressway and the cleared rail link come as one package. It is a long horizon bet.
Gandhinagar and GIFT City. Ahmedabad airport is about 20 to 25 km away, which suits buyers who fly often.
SP Ring Road expansion 2026, which Ahmedabad areas gain most
Data notes
Flyer and plane movement figures cover April 2025 to March 2026 unless another year is marked. The airport count follows the Gujarat Chief Minister's statement of 2 September 2026. Dholera figures follow the Union Civil Aviation Minister's review of July 2026. Dwarka distances follow the Devbhumi Dwarka district administration. Flight routes change often, so check the airline or airport site before booking.
