Ahmedabad's ₹3,636 Crore Infrastructure Plan

Ahmedabad's civic body wants to spend ₹3,636 crore on roads, water, hospitals, and sports facilities. This is ahead of the 2030 Commonwealth Games. 

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) placed the plan before its Standing Committee. If you own property here, or plan to buy, here is what's on the table, what's funded, and what's still just a proposal. 

What AMC Has Actually Approved So Far 

Nothing is final yet. AMC has tabled the ₹3,636 crore plan before the Standing Committee. 

It still needs sign-off from the full board. Then it needs approval from the state government in Gandhinagar. Only after that can funding be released and work begin. 

This matters if you're tracking the plan for property decisions. A proposal is an early step, not a start date. 

Projects usually move in stages once the state approves the budget. Expect a gap of months, sometimes more, before you see work on site.

Sports Complexes and Traffic Fixes in Gota and Ranip 

AMC wants to build mini sports complexes in Gota and Ranip. This backs the city's push for major sporting events ahead of 2030. 

The plan also covers traffic fixes. It includes redesigning busy roads, adding noise barriers, and repairing key bridges. 

A separate ₹34 crore is set aside just for traffic work. This covers more EV charging points and better public transport. 

If you're looking at flats in Gota or flats in Thaltej, these upgrades are worth watching. Better local amenities and less traffic tend to support resale value over time. 

₹752 Crore for Water Pipelines, Drains, and Chandola Lake 

The biggest single share of the plan, over ₹752 crore, covers water pipes, new drains, and lake work. Chandola Lake is named for development under this head. 

This budget also covers: 

• Health facilities: new health centres, labs, and physiotherapy centres in Ranip and Vejalpur. 

• Civic spaces: Upgrades to civic centres, fire stations, community halls, party plots, and crematoriums. 

• Local markets: Small shopping arcades like Ahmedabad Haat, plus vegetable markets. 

Drains and lake work don't make big headlines. But they decide whether a locality floods each monsoon. 

If your area has flooded before, this is the part of the plan worth watching closely. 

Hospitals and Schools Get a Direct Funding Boost 

AMC has proposed ₹161 crore for new medical equipment and furniture. Most of this goes to LG Hospital and Shardaben Hospital, the civic body's two main hospitals. 

Separately, the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board wants ₹113 crore for schools. This includes a new school building in Makarba. 

These are not Commonwealth Games venues. They're everyday facilities: hospital gear, school buildings. Not flashy, but they shape how livable a neighbourhood feels. 

₹472 Crore to Redesign 117 Roads Across the City 

Most residents will notice this part first. The road plan falls under a state scheme called the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Urban Development Scheme. Under this scheme, the state first asked AMC for ₹315 crore in road proposals. 

AMC asked for more: ₹472 crore, covering 117 main roads across the city. 

The road work falls into three types: 

• White-topping (a strong concrete surface): Naranpura, Thaltej, Chandkheda, Lambha ward, and the Shivranjani-to-Iscon stretch. 

• Main road repaving: Khadia, Relief Road, the Bopal stretch from Empire to Sanvi Nirman, and the LJ College-to-Chiripal House road. 

• Busy road upgrades: SoBo Center Road up to SP Ring Road, the road near Cambay Hotel in Vejalpur, and routes used for the Jagannath Rath Yatra. 

White-topped roads last much longer than normal asphalt roads. The goal is to cut the pothole-and-patch cycle Ahmedabad has dealt with for years. 

Some past white-topping projects in the city faced delays. A few needed rework due to poor coordination between departments. That's worth keeping in mind as this bigger 117-road plan moves forward.

Why AMC Is Moving on This Now 

Ahmedabad is set to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. This ₹3,636 crore plan adds to other infrastructure work already underway. 

Separately, the Centre has already approved Rs 2,719.80 crore under a fund called the Urban Challenge Fund. This money covers six Ahmedabad projects in sewage, water, and transit. This funding has already approved. It is separate from this AMC plan, which is still pending. 

What This Means If You Own Property in These Areas 

• Track the approval dates. Until the state approves funding, timelines can shift. Don't treat "proposed" as "confirmed" when planning a resale or renovation. 

• Watch for road work near white-topping zones. Naranpura, Thaltej, Chandkheda, and Lambha residents should expect some construction noise and blocked access once work starts. 

• Check your area's flood history. If you're in a zone covered by the ₹752 crore drain and lake work, this could cut monsoon flooding risk over the next few years. 

• Note the hospital and school upgrades if you rent out property. Better nearby facilities, like an upgraded LG Hospital or Shardaben Hospital, can be a real plus for tenants and buyers. 

What This Means If You're Buying Near These Corridors 

• Check project status directly with AMC's public notices. Don't rely on a broker's timeline, since "proposed" and "funded" are very different stages. 

• Pick locations near funded road and water work over areas where infrastructure is only mentioned in passing. Funded projects move faster. 

• Plan for some construction noise. Areas getting white-topped or repaved will see short-term disruption before the benefit shows up in your commute. 

• Compare your shortlist against this plan and metro or airport projects too. Areas that gain from more than one upgrade tend to hold value better over time.
