Rs 18,901 crore tender floated for Ahmedabad-Dholera rail line: what changed since the Cabinet approval

Western Railway has floated a construction tender worth about ₹18,901.68 crore. It is for the Sarkhej-Dholera Semi High-Speed Double Rail Line. This is the same 134-km project the Union Cabinet approved on 13 May 2026. But this is a new, separate step. A tender means Railways is now asking companies to bid for the job of building the line. Tracks, bridges, power lines, signal systems, all of them. The winning company gets 42 months to build it. That fits the project's 2030-31 target. No construction has started yet. A common mix-up: this is not the Bhavnagar-Dholera line 

If you follow Dholera news, you may have also seen the "Bhavnagar-Dholera railway" mentioned. That is a different, smaller project. It's a proposed 65-km line, built mainly for freight, linking Bhavnagar to Dholera. Some articles blend the two. Don't let that confuse you. 

The line in this article is the Sarkhej-Dholera line. It is 134 km long. It has spurs to the airport and to Lothal. It carries passengers at semi-high speed.
